It's looking like Target's prices will be $18/$20 AC, with another promo to stack with: save another $8 when you buy LatT with another select Disney Blu Ray. Listed Blu Rays are Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Dumbo, and Bambi for $20 each, so in theory, LatT and one other for $30/$32. Best Buy has one of the sets (awaiting confirmation as to which) for $25 with a $5 coupon that does not appear to be the one from Disney. It also comes with a plush Lady (while supplies last). Newegg's regular price is $79.99 (savings of $50). This is not the latest version; PowerDVD 12, which is the current version, is sold by the vendor for $49.95 (standard), $79.95 (pro), or $99.95 (ultra), although I recall seeing that Cyberlink had their software 50% off on New Year's Day, so they do have periodic sales if you'd rather wait to buy the latest version. You probably can learn what the difference is between the versions (11 vs. 12) and editions (Standard vs. Pro vs. Ultra) by checking out their website.
If you bought an OEM BD drive that didn't come with playback software, you probably need to buy this or a comparable product. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't bundle BD codecs with Windows, as they do with DVD codecs. (Blu-ray disc drives only read the data off the disc; they don't interpret the video.) Admittedly, PowerDVD is obnoxious, because you have to pay for each upgrade; Cyberlink doesn't patch previous products for compatibility with new BDs that come out (e.g., Star Wars trilogy/anthology on BD). Apparently their customer service is horrible, according to Newegg reviews.
Personally, version 9 (bundled with my BD drive) has worked fine on the three movies I've watched so far, and it integrates (almost) seamlessly with Windows 7 Media Center. I say "almost," because I haven't figured out how to get my IR remote to control playback in the PowerDVD plug-in. (Fortunately, I can still use my Lenovo key-mote I bought back in early December.)
Bottom line: for $30, it's definitely a deal, but you're not getting the absolute latest version, which could be an issue for playing back the latest BDs coming out. If you bought an OEM drive and haven't been able to play anything, you should seriously consider buying this, unless you prefer another software package (e.g., Corel WinDVD). Personally, I'd buy a standalone player over playing the full price, but I have a HTPC that is taking up the top half of my media cabinet, so I don't have anywhere to put an extra media player anyway.) If you know of open-source BD codecs ... well, let everyone know! (It's Sony proprietary, so there probably aren't any ... yet.)
